Karmakat Update

I decided to Slow things down a bit and work on a larger scale since I did a huge set of Quickies. So here we have the beach scene in a full preview! It's hard to tell since the last update (I think it was just feet), but I did adjust some of the colours and began the lighting process. I juggled this and the infamous Christmas image (which I will post later) At least beach scenes have a more simplified scheme!

Collective Quick Sketch update

I have been a busy Omega today. All of these just need final touches. Which is a good thing, too, because, indeed, I must take on MOAR.

Smile!

Mezron Full Colour concepts/Inspiration

first draft
second draft
Closer... I've been stuck on this for a while. He wants a scene featuring a young Doyle going on a joyride on Mez's motorcycle!
I'm always touched when people ask to have my characters inserted, and Mez is unique because he was inspired by my little artistic whims. So now, Mez is actually a large part of Doyle's childhood.

I imagine this is the moment when Doyle discovers the real idea of freedom. Bikers put a lot of who they are into their bikes... and I'd like to think, up until now, Doyle has had a pretty restricted upbringing, but now on this bike with this stranger he met by chance years ago, he understands that there's more out there and after this moment, he decides he wants to "live" life.
Originally envisioned this scene going from the city and out into the open road to emphasize that... but the focus couldn't be put on the feeling. Maybe in the final I can fit it all in there! I hope I can!.

...
but I'm sure no one cares about that ;) Anyway, all of these were sketched on the DS today! The third draft has a lot of the feeling I want, but I couldn't grab the motorcycle ref to work with, so composition wise it'll be tweaked a lot!

I've been trying to upload them for HOURS. Gahhh.

Quick Sketch Updates!

SKETCH-A-THON!

Some financial stuff has forced me to do an Iron Artist style version of my Quick Sketch commissions! That means I do as many as I need to do! No excuses! So the road so far! (as reposted from Twitter!)
WOO!

The To-Do pile.

Got around to scanning the first batch of Quick sketches! Looks like... ten so far! Whew!
And that's including a couple from the previous list! There would be one more, but I decided to redraw that one.

It's been a stressful week already, but there's no choice but to keep moving forward!

These are ready for colour lovin'! And I'm still going to continue sketching more.

E'err day I'm Sketchin'!

PS: My background rotates and currently it's on a shot from the Prince of Persia game... in case you couldn't tell!

Karmakat: Inks

Self explanatory... I have another WIP in the works, but I actually don't remember if I'm allowed to post it or not! So Have this! :) The background is going to be painted, so the lines are just there for show.

Christmas Party WIP

Also self explanatory! Mostly.
I want to say that, while I'm disappointed I didn't get this image done on time (it's JUNE)- I'm not exactly sorry. Why?
Well, more time means I've had more time to practice. Admittedly, the part I dread the most about this image was lighting the background. I'd think about it and go "aauughgghh"

The quick colour commissions really help me to sort of fine tune my technique. And actually, for lighting the background - I deleted what had previously took me hours to do, started from scratch, and did it much more to my liking in a matter of minutes!

It's still by no means complete, but I'm not afraid to work on this any more.

So yes, while I'm embarrassed at how long this image is taking, I'm not sorry! The quality this deserved and what I wanted to bring from the beginning will speak for itself when the image is completed. I didn't want it to be something I looked at and new how many corners I cut to complete it at a so called 'reasonable time'. That's just... not how I do it! Like they say, do it fast or do it right.

But  thanks to all the practice from my Quick Colour commissions, I guess now I can get it done a little faster, AND I can get it done right.

Karmakat: Ink WIP

Pretty self explanatory! Just wanted to showcase how the inks were coming along.

Karmakat: Work In Progress 2

Gonna do a digital sweep soon, so I'm making sure my higher grade commissions are where I need them to be!
Got a face lift! Mainly in the sense of moving some things around and fleshing out down some details. Compare it to the older rough sketch from the first progress post if you like!

Karmakat: Work In Progress

Just as it says. I decided to give some love to my longer standing, higher grade commissions. Update to the listings to occur shortly.

Christmas Quadrants

Just what it says! Some croppings of the base colouring I've done today for the Christmas group image!
I'd really like to finish before July!

Screen grabs: Raijin & Krhainos

Didn't get much work done today, so I decided to post some colour cropping. Still a lot more to do on these

Wednesday, November 23, 2011

Client: Raijin

This is much further along (shading and final detailing! also some edits here and there) but to post screengrabs of those now would just be silly! The background on this (colour scheme wise) was really giving me a tough time. I think I'm happy with it though.
Not like you can tell with all this grey happening!

Clients Krhainos & Raijin

Raijin first. This is the last preview image I have. Those merc soldiers still need a lot of defining, as well as our poor shot-in-the-noggin guy.
Looking forward to colouring this!

Krhainos again! Spent the afternoon on this getting it ready for base colouring proper because I figured the armor was going to be a problem.
But it wasn't really. Practice makes perfect!

Excited about these!

Client Krhainos

A bit appropriate that I got this nailed down before the launch of Combat Evolved Anniversary, eh?

Background is fully inked, starting on foreground.
